The Power of Positive Thinking (Change Your Mind, Change Your Life)

The Power of Positive Thinking

There they were again, those sneaky little thoughts. It’s amazing how those unkind (untrue) words had the power to alter not only my day but my entire life. Yet there I was again, feeding the negative little monster and letting myself wallow in shame and misery. My misery was brought on by one small seemingly benign comment from a friend.

Almost all the things my friend said to me seemed to feed my little “lie monster”. In a moment, I was reminded of how short I really fall on a daily basis. I wanted to be the perfect mom, the perfect daughter, the perfect wife, the perfect musician, but I had failed at all at one time or another.

The truth is… we all suffer from this. As women, we take everything personally. There is always some little voice in our minds trying to tell us we are somehow not going to make the cut, people, won’t like us, we are not desirable, or other such nonsense. Let’s have a real moment, shall we?

That is worth celebrating! You are not a robot. You have feelings and dreams, and make a meaningful (and messy) connection with people. Perfect is a lie. It’s a watered-down copy of the awesome and amazing person you were made to be. Perfection removes your ability to connect, learn, fail, and ultimately FLY!

So Why is it Important to Think Positively?

The power of positive thinking is so important because your mind is the place where you are alone. Only you can hear your thoughts and control them. No one can do that for you.

I am about to go spiritual on you… so for those of you that don’t believe, that’s ok, just read on and understand that this is how I communicate and it always comes from a loving place for all my readers! We don’t do shame and judgment here.

I was reading this verse in the Bible the other day

Philippians 4:8 New International Version (NIV)

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

It made me think about what I was thinking… ????

How many times a day was I saying something to myself that just plain wasn’t nice? The answer? A LOT. So then I am left with the question…

How Do I Develop Positive Thoughts?

The good news is it really is as simple as writing a few key things down and saying them out loud to yourself each day. I watched this amazing youtube video on training our subconscious to create success. In the video, Dr. Bruce Lipton talks about how we are programmed at birth to interact with our world. The video is called “Why Rich People Stay Rich and Poor People Stay Poor” I loved listening to him talk about how to reprogram your mind and make your thought patterns more effective each day.

Dr. Bruce talks about how to actually reprogram your subconscious mind. The surprise? The truths are the same as I pointed out in the Bible verse above.

How different would your life be if you didn’t have to try so hard to access the power of positive thinking? What if you were completely programmed for success in every area and your mind naturally began to think more positively? All you have to do is train your mind.

How can I train my thoughts to be positive?

If you are feeling lost and little overwhelmed no how to program your brain, let me be the first to say, I am with you friend. When I started learning all of this it was confusing and I had no way forward. For that reason, I wanted to write to you and give you a solution. Below, are the simple steps I took to retrain my brain to use the power of positive thinking.

Positive Thinking Step # 1- Identify The Problem

First of all, if we look at any recovery program we see that the first and most vital steps are to identify the problem. Many times we focus on the outcome and not the actual problem we are walking through. We can often identify that we have a bad mood when our kids are too hyper during the day, but try to dig deeper and to connect the dots. Is it actually your workload, financial stress, or lack of healthy sleep schedule is contributing to your short-temperedness? Whatever problem you are facing, be honest, and don’t judge yourself. Just write it down and move to step #2.

Positive Thinking Step # 2- Retrain Your Subconscious with Practice

Talking to yourself is NOT a sign you are crazy. Rather, it can be extremely helpful and beneficial, if you are saying kind things. Once you identify the behavior you want to correct in yourself make sure you tell yourself, out loud, repetitively. It’s all about repetition when training your subconscious mind. For instance, if you want to become a more happy person, continuously say to yourself “I am happy”. After a while, your mind will automatically default to that state of conscious training automatically.

So, what is the real power of positive thinking?

This secret can help you actually move forward. No longer angry and sour about things out of your control. The “real” power of positive thinking is YOU! You need reminders that you are a positive person, capable of great things. Show yourself are valuable and worth the effort and time for self-care. Remind yourself that you are smart and have a brilliant future ahead of you. Reminding yourself out loud, over and over, changes your mind and allows you to exercise the power of positive thinking in your life to create better days for you and your kids!
