Our Full Time RV Living Story (Part 1)

Have you ever heard God tell you something that scares you more than just a little bit? Us too!!! Our Full Time RV Living story starts in early 2017, when the Lord told us to sell our beautiful house in eastern North Carolina and move. We weren’t sure where we were supposed to go, just that we were supposed to move on. We thought that because of where we were at the time it would just be a move closer to our wonderful church family in New Bern, NC. When we finally realized we might be making the move to Full Time RV Living…

MY HONEST FIRST RESPONSE WAS “JESUS, YOU ARE CRAZY.”

I didn’t want to sell my house. I had worked for YEARS to get this place and I loved it. It was literally my dream house! You can see some of the pictures below… (I know right!?!?)

But God is faithful and kind. He kept whispering to me, talking to me, and reminding me of his promises.

It didn’t happen all at once. It didn’t even happen in four months. It took six months of God telling me to leave our house before I even wanted to talk about it with my husband.

I imagine the feelings we were having would have been similar to how Abraham and Sarah might have felt. When they embarked on their journey to an unknown land with unknown people, I am sure it was stressful.

It felt overwhelming and scary to say yes to Full Time RV Living.

Do I believe that the Lord would have been faithful even if we had said no? Yes absolutely!

Do I ever want to get in the habit of telling the Lord no? Absolutely not… that’s a scary place to be.

How our Full Time RV Living Story Began…

I remember clearly the day that my husband finally gave in, after months of resisting the change. He came to me and said “I heard from the Lord, It’s time for us to move to Full Time RV Living.”

I laughed a little, rolled my eyes, and said “welcome to the party”.

This is footage of my actual reaction…

In all seriousness, I knew that when it was time for us to really make the move to Full Time RV Living my husband would be the one to give the go-ahead. We joke that I am the prophet seeing things coming from afar, and he is the timing knowing exactly when the right moment is.

Isn’t that the way the Lord always works though? He gives us an idea, inspires it, and then just as we get too nervous to make a move, he shoves off the cliff.

It would have been really easy to turn back so many times in the process. We were nervous, not knowing exactly what we were saying yes to.

THERE WAS AN UNDERSTANDING THAT IN SAYING “YES” TO GOD IN THIS CALL, WE WERE GIVING UP THE RIGHT TO PREDICT WHAT CAME NEXT IN OUR LIVES.

It was gut wrenchingly hard sometimes, it was scary and full of tears, and best of all it was liberating.

We learned, in the process of putting our house on the market and selling all of our precious possessions, getting a little frustrated with each other sometimes, all while trying to homeschool and run an online business, that life with Jesus is always messy.

JESUS DOESN’T ENTER YOUR LIFE TO MAKE EVERYTHING NEAT AND PERFECT,

HE ENTERS YOUR LIFE TO PERFECT HIS GLORY IN YOU.

ISAIAH 55:8-9 (NIV)

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

It was a process getting the house listed and ready to go, it’s amazing how much baggage you can accumulate over years of living in one space, and how much you really DON’T need in your life. But I digress… (more on that in another blog post)

During this time of wondering and questioning “what would Full Time RV Living bring?”, our talented daughter drew a picture of what she thought our next house was supposed to look like… before we told her about our idea to move to Full Time RV Living

Stay tuned, you can hear more of the story (and see Rael’s picture) on the next Full Time RV Living post!
